A Healthy Start
All of our breeding dogs first have DNA testing to determine whether they carry or are affected by any genetic conditions such as Ichthyosis or Degenerative Myelopathy. We can also see certain aspect of their genes like estimated size and coat traits.
We adhere to the standards put forth by the GRCA (Golden Retriever Club of America). It is important to us that we are breeding to preserve great temperaments and athleticism, but our top priority has to be health and longevity.
The four points of health testing laid out by the GRCA are hips, elbows, heart, and eyes. All of these are one-time tests except for the eye exams which are to be done yearly.

Puppy- Raising
We will always hand raise our puppies indoors. We believe it is important for the development of the puppy, and for it’s future adaptability, to interact with us in a typical home environment with both the family and our other dogs. Our puppies start both Early Neurological Stimulation (also known as Biosensor or SuperDog) and Early Scent Introduction on day three and continue through day sixteen. There are many benefits to both of these trainings, and overall are shown to produce more stable dogs and dogs that have an ability to learn faster and live healthier.

They will also be introduced to behavior shaping, positively reinforced training for basic commands like recall, sit/stay, potty and crate training. Your Origins puppy will have a head-start on important lessons for the future!
The Future of Origins
At the end of November 2023, Kyra had her second litter by a stud called Scout, owned by Brittani Ellis at Golden Retrievers of South Carolina. I was very pleased with the sportiness and confidence of the litter and kept a female for myself, who we named Ivy! Ivy is currently going through the Cornerstone Gundog Academy and is also working on some other fun titles with the AKC. I’m hoping to add her to the breeding program in the future and build on the versatility of my lines, especially bringing in some more recent field titles.
My long-term goal for Origins is to produce a Versatility champion. This is a title through the national breed club that recognizes a Golden who excels in field, show, and companion sport. As I work towards this goal, I will be continuously analyzing my dogs’ conformation and natural working ability.
